Season Opener Success

The primary purpose of the season openers is to draw sailors out of hibernation and into the fresh sea breeze. Recently we ran two of these events, which went way beyond just a sail; both were rich with some great socialising with lots of different characters adding to the great dynamics.

Our first event saw or rather didn’t see, a passage to Poole in thick fog, the first time that the crew saw land was after lunch in Studland bay. Our afternoon was spent sailing off Poole before heading to Poole to watch the rugby on board aided by some beers brought onboard at Poole by the crew.

As a reward, the weatherman gave a fantastic NE wind for a sporty sail back to Lymington.

Our second season opener was aided by more suitable sailing conditions and a supply of a good ENE wind from the outset which gave us the power and the wind angle for a great sail down to Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic coast for lunch and then some great sailing practice before being in at Weymouth for the RBS Irish game and ultimately the England vs France game, all watched in a pub with Fish and Chips. Our sail back was a little tougher but equally rewarding.

The season openers always serve a great purpose, to get Bella back in her stride and the crew reintroduced to the great sport of sailing is always a great thing to do.

We have another weekend scheduled in May and will have more later on in the year. As always we had a combination of experienced sailors and new recruits from Farmers to Lawyers, from introverts to extroverts so if you are looking to get back onto the water or to try sailing for the first time we have a really broad range of sailing experiences.
